Exhibitor help

Tips, and the things nobody tells you the first time

Short, practical guidance on keeping a book a judge can follow, showing well, speaking about your project, and asking someone to buy it. Written for exhibitors, and useful to whoever is helping them.

What these pages will cover

Record keeping

Keeping the book as you go, so the week it is due is not a reconstruction job. What a judge is actually looking for, and the entries most often left blank.

Showing tips

Working with your animal in the weeks before, and holding it together in the ring on the day.

Public speaking

Interviews, presentations, and answering a judge’s questions without freezing.

Inviting a buyer

Who to approach, why asking in person comes first, and what a buyer will want to know. Selling an animal is a relationship built over months.

Thank-you letters

The buyer’s letter and the thank-you letter are often graded separately. What a strong one usually covers — the words stay yours.

Show day

Check-in, weigh-in, paperwork, and the things worth packing the night before.

Latest

Articles are being written now. If there is something you are stuck on, say so — that is usually where the next one comes from.

The words in your book stay yours

Everything here is guidance on how to think about a task — never a paragraph to copy. The project story, the reflection, the buyer’s letter, and the thank-you letter are the parts a judge is grading, and they are the point of keeping the book. The app will not write them either.

Keep the book while the season is happening.
